Our WT Taekwondo Curriculum
What is WT Taekwondo?
WT (World Taekwondo) Taekwondo is a Korean martial art that focuses on teaching both fighting skills and developing mental discipline. It differs from other martial arts in that it is characterized primarily by dynamic and active kicking techniques. The word "taekwondo" translates to "the art of kicking and punching." Students at DIMA learn three main skills: forms, sparring, and self defense.
Forms. A form is a set of coordinated movements that requires mental and physical discipline. As students learn forms, they develop precision, power, and control. Sparring. Sparring is combat training. Students wear protective gear and learn to think under pressure, improvise, and keep their cool in a tense situation. Self defense. Self defense includes practical techniques for defending against an attacker. These include blocking and striking, with locks, throws, and takedowns. WT Taekwondo at DIMA
At DIMA, students at all levels learn basic taekwondo techniques, including kicks, blocks, and punches in relation to self defense, sparring, and forms. But taekwondo is more than kicking and punching. Learning taekwondo also helps students develop physically and mentally, and DIMA has developed an age-specific curriculum that meets the needs of various age groups: Tiny Tigers, Little Ninjas, and TKD Color Belts.
Students do not need to start as a Tiny Tiger or Little Ninja before joining the TKD Color Belt curriculum; they will be placed in the appropriate program when they join DIMA.

Tiny Tigers (3-4 year olds)
This program is for students ages 3-4 and focuses on developing both their phsyical and mental capabilities. In weekly 30-minute sessions, students refine basic motor skills (such as balance), discipline (such as active listening), and other "school-readiness" skills.
When they are old enough and have shown proficiency, these students are promoted to the Little Ninjas program. |
Little Ninjas (5-7 year olds)
This program is for students ages 5-7 and provides more advanced instruction than the Tiny Tigers. These 45-minute classes also help students refine basic motor skills and discipline. In addition, Little Ninjas learn more advanced social skills (such as teamwork) and how to set and accomplish goals.
When Little Ninjas are old enough and have shown proficiency, they are promoted to the main color belt curriculum. |
TKD Color Belts (8 and up)
This program is for students over the age of 8, including beginner adults, and includes the full taekwondo color belt curriculum. Not only do these students refine basic physical and mental skills while developing their social skills, but they also learn coordination, precision, and power.
Once students have completed the full color belt curriculum, they promote to black belt and continue to develop advanced taekwondo skills through a more rigorous curriculum. |
Our Students
Our taekwondo students come from a range of ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Here at DIMA, they are trained to be future professionals in martial arts, learning skills that they can use beyond the dojang (martial arts school). Our taekwondo curriculum helps students to become disciplined, motivated, energetic, and respectful individuals who create good in the world.
